Escape route signs and pictograms

Since 2016, SafeExIT and Induflex have worked closely together on the production of plastic parts and pictograms for evacuation route signs.

SafeExIT came to us with their drawings and product specifications.

The task included cutting parts for signs in a suitable material, printing appropriate colours and streamlining production of the many different signage solutions.

SafeExIT tells

“We turned to Induflex when searching for a subcontractor who could manufacture parts for our escape route signs.

Induflex was clear about the task and came forward with a solution that fits the purpose and fulfils the safety requirements and the need for individual adaptation of the signs.

We are completely satisfied with Induflex’s solution and the sparring we were given in connection with choice of materials, colours and production methods.”

Project Lead, SafeExIT

The escape route signs are used on metro stations

Individually tailored signs showing meter distances

One of the aims of each sign is to indicate the distance to the nearest escape route or emergency aid station. This meant that each individual sign had to be adapted to impart the information specific to its location.

To ensure the correct specifications, we developed software specially for printing SafeExIT’s signs. It reads and prints out the meterage in question.

Production of signs

Since the signs must be able to withstand fire, we make them in a special fire-retardant polycarbonate so that the product fulfils UL94 requirements.

We use our plotting cutter and digitally print pictograms: these show possible evacuation routes and how to find emergency assistance.

We use EPDM cellular rubber to seal the electronic part of the sign to keep out any damp and dirt. EPDM cellular rubber can withstand extreme conditions and, in particular, is able to withstand high winds and all weathers.

We then fit the sheets into frames. On arrival at SafeExIT, the signs are finished and sent onward for use in road, metro and train tunnels all over the world.
