What is PET-P?

Polyethylene Terephthalate Polyester (PET-P) is a semi-crystalline version of PET that offers high mechanical strength and excellent chemical resistance.

Several companies produce PET-P, and it is available under various brand names, such as TECAPET®, TECADUR™, and Ertalyte®.

Properties and Advantages

PET-P has a low moisture absorption combined with good chemical resistance, making it resistant to intensive cleaning without damage. However, this plastic type cannot withstand hot water above 60 °C for extended periods.

PET-P is characterized by its high toughness, stiffness, and good wear resistance, making it suitable for items that require high surface quality and can withstand mechanical stress.

Additionally, PET-P has a low friction coefficient and good dimensional stability, ensuring that it retains its shape and size under load and during movement.

Besides its strength and toughness, the material offers good chemical resistance to mild acids and solvents, but not to bases.

Is the material approved for food contact?

When you order items made from PET-P from us, they are standardly FCM-approved. This means the material can come into contact with food.

As a result, the material is suitable for several industries where there is a need for contact with either food or medical products.

What is PET-P used for?

Due to its properties, this plastic type is suitable for various components and machine parts across many industries. Therefore, it is used for items such as:

  • Gears
  • Wheels
  • Bushings
  • Rollers
  • Wear parts
  • Sprockets
  • Bearings

And much more.

Machining of PET-P

PET-P can be processed using several techniques that we offer at Induflex.

The material has good dimensional stability, making it well-suited for CNC machining.

At Induflex, we can CNC-mill and -turn with high precision. If your components are complex and technical, milling will be the best choice, while turning is effective for producing round and cylindrical parts.

Alternativ
materials
for PET-P

If PET-P is not the ideal choice for your project, the following plastic types may be good alternatives:

  • PTFE: For applications that require high chemical resistance and high or low service temperatures.

  • POM: For applications that require high stiffness and higher friction.

  • PA (Nylon): For applications that require high strength and wear resistance.

At Induflex, we are specialists in plastics. We are ready to help you identify your needs so you can choose the right material for your project. Contact us today for personalized advice on your project.
Spørgsmål og svar
  • We have a large inventory of plastics, allowing us to meet requests for standard materials within 14 working days, depending on the complexity of your item.

If your project requires more specialized plastics, such as PET-P with additives, we operate within one month.

We only collaborate with European suppliers, enabling us to quickly order materials to meet your needs.

  • At Induflex, we can produce even very tight tolerances in plastic.

When you order a plastic part from us, it will meet Danish Standard ISO 2768-1 (medium) as standard. We measure the tolerances at room temperature, around 21 °C.

Of course, we can agree on different tolerances if you wish.

  • PET-P is an FCM-approved high-performance plastic and can therefore be used for components that come into direct contact with food, such as a machine part for a food processing machine.

However, if additives are used, the FKM approval is void.

  • By sending us a STEP file or PDF with your drawings, we can quickly help determine if PTFE is the right choice for your project.

We can also identify the processing method that best suits your components.

Enhance properties
with additives

PET-P can be further enhanced by the addition of various additives.

PET-P with Teflon®:

When Teflon is added to PET-P, the additive acts as a lubricant, improving the sliding properties of the plastic type.

You can always recognize PET-P that has been added with Teflon as it changes color from its normal white to gray.

Please note that the FCM approval is voided when using any of the above additives.
