What is PP?

PP, or polypropylene, is a rigid, semi-crystalline thermoplastic and an opaque material known for its thermoforming properties.

It is lightweight, stiff, and resistant to many chemicals. Due to its excellent characteristics, polypropylene is widely used in various industries.

Polypropylene is also known by brand names such as AlphaPlus® and Polystone®.

Properties and Advantages

PP plastic is white and opaque but can be colored in almost any shade. It has the lowest density among plastic fibers and comes in various types, with PP-H (homopolymer) being the primary variant we work with.

The material has high rigidity, low moisture absorption, and a broad service temperature range from -10°C to 100°C. However, it should not be used below -10°C, as it becomes more brittle and prone to cracking.

PP-H also offers excellent chemical resistance to acids, bases, and solvents, combined with good impact strength and creep resistance. This makes PP-H more durable, with a longer lifespan than earlier versions of polypropylene.

Is the material approved for food-contact?

As a standard, polypropylene (PP) is not approved for food contact. However, if you require FDA/FCM-approved components, we can source these from our European supplier network.

You can read more about our standards for FKM approval and traceability of your components by following the link below.

What is PP used for?

Polypropylen (PP) is widely used across various industries due to its excellent properties. In the medical industry, it is commonly used for:

  • Filters
  • Pipettes
  • Tubes
  • Inhalers
  • Containers

Outside the medical field, PP is used in a range of products, such as:

  • Rollers
  • Panels
  • Casings
  • Pipelines
  • Insulation
  • Gutters

And much more.

Machining of PP

Your PP components can be machined through CNC turning and CNC milling in our workshop, and we can also cut your parts on our cutting plotter.

Here, we can easily cut PP sheets in thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mm to 20 mm.

Alternative
materials
to PP

Although polypropylene has many advantages, there may be situations where other plastic materials are more suitable. Despite its hardness, the material shows low strength in cold conditions and loses rigidity at temperatures above 100°C. It is also sensitive to UV exposure and less suited for mechanical wear.

For applications in cold environments, PEHD or PTFE (Teflon®) are better alternatives depending on your material requirements, while PEHD, POM, and PA (Nylon) are more suitable for tasks involving greater mechanical wear.

Spørgsmål og svar
  • We have a large stock of plastic materials, allowing us to meet requests for items made from standard materials within 8-14 working days, depending on the complexity of your project.

If your project requires more specialized plastic, such as PP with additives, we operate within a one-month timeframe. We only collaborate with European suppliers, ensuring that materials can be quickly ordered and delivered to meet your needs.

  • At Induflex, we can achieve even very tight tolerances in plastic.

When you order a plastic part from us, it adheres to the Danish Standard ISO 2768-1 (medium) by default. We measure the tolerances at room temperature, around 21 °C.

Of course, we can agree on different tolerances if you wish.

  • By sending us a STEP file or PDF with your drawings, we can quickly help determine if PET is the right choice for your project.

We can also identify the most suitable processing method for your components.
